Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is a sub-regional expression that is unmistakably Penfolds in character. Conceived from the ancient soils around the township of Marananga, located very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley.
Bin 150 is a contemporary shiraz and distinct from others within our collection.
We have long used fruit from this revered grape growing district for other Penfolds wines, however in 2008 the winemaking team saw an opportunity to secure an increasing supply of exceptional fruit from its ancient soils. With this, Bin 150 was born and being a sub-regional expression, showcases a unique sense of place with each release.
We employ a number of viticulture practices to secure fruit representative of this heartland Barossa character – saturated colours, dark fruit profile and ripe tannins. In the winery, we use time-honoured techniques to bring balance to the fruit. Chief among them is our use of a mix of oaks, which includes; French and American, old and new, small and large. As always, we craft with the Penfolds House Style at front of mind.
